God Among Lice:
Let's start with the photography. I'm not sure who ce- is even after perusing the memberlist, but I didn't enjoy looking at his/her photos. Jpegs are simply a lousy way of presenting this kind of photography as art, and the low quality saves make this painfully obvious. The sunset becomes a garbled mess of blocks and the snowy forest a glob of white and gray. This is really defaming nature, not exalting it (which the original photos may have successfully done). The black and white photos from Pisces 3D and Insequi are more effective, since they focus on simpler aspects of form and composition, and grayscale images make it easier to convey more accurately the detail from the original photos. Another better way to use photos in digital images is to try some photomanip like Fire From Heaven has done in this pack. Maybe not one of his best, but I like the way the jobless men from the FDR memorial look as though a bucket of blue paint has just drenched them entirely.

Goatgirl's shark-surfing caveman made me laugh, and was excellently drawn, to boot. Etana's mice are kind of cute, but talk about light subjects... In the drawn toon/anime department, colored picture easily wins over line drawings once again in a unanimous decision. Optik Nurv: what are you doing?? To all other people in this group creating bland, bizarre, effects-driven drivel: what are you doing?? There's too much of it, and I don't plan on smoking anything just so I might be able to appreciate it. Actually, the strange thing is, I find tm-anger.jpg to be somehow honest and effective. Maybe it's the simplicity of the message and visual elements.. and the color. Whatever.

In short, there are some decent pictures in this pack, but also a whole lot of computer artwork that looks like stuff I saw people making during the first few weeks of learning Photoshop in a class I had in high school (I was one of those people too :) ). I'd like to see more photography, but not landscapes and subjects that need to show a lot of visual detail. If there is a nice photo with detail to it, then at least give it the respect it deserves when saving the jpeg. Leave the low quality saves for the Photoshop playthings.
