introduction:

this demo, unlike many other demos, is actually not made for
the big audience, but for ourself. the title indicate that
ImPACT DK as a demo group have been spread apart during the last
few years. it's not something we regreet or want to change, it's
just a fact like any other.

general:

Spread
an ImPACT DK Java demo
released at Summer Encounter 1999

credits:

main programming: Uffe Hansen
programming support: Jeppe Schmidt, Jon Frydensbjerg, Brian Fløe
graphics: Kresten Andersen
music: Thomas Bryld

hardware requirements:

browser with Java JIT compiling (quite important)
pentium II 400mhz CPU or similar (will work on less though)
64mb memory

performance:

we are aware that this demo requires a quite fast computer, this
is because we have spend no time optimizing our code. the effects
are pretty old, so we chose to spend our time working on the design
instead of optimizing old code. we did implement some features though:

- choosing 'slow computer' means that the demo does not release the cpu,
and furthermore some effects will have decreased amount of vertexes
- choosing 'fast computer' means that the demo will release the cpu
a little between frame updating, and all effects will be rendered to the limit
- disabling music does not increase performance, but reduces loadtime with 461kb
- if you think the demo runs too fast on your computer, then you can
manually increase the 'sleepDelay' parameter to the applet to something
like 30 or 40. this will cause the demo to wait some milliseconds
between each frame it renders, thus slowing it down

compatibility:

- should work on version 4, or higher, browsers
- performance sometimes drops under windows nt using explorer, try using netscape instead
- have been tested to work on linux and macintosh using netscape
