From: Dave Coombs -Height, weight, age, location, name. I'm Dave Coombs (DNA of Superiority Complex)... I'm 17, and I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada... I am just tall enough to bonk my head on low ceilings when going down stairs, and I am just light enough so that when I fall on the stairs after I bonk my head on the ceiling, I don't fall right THROUGH the stairs. :) -Place you would like to live. I'm quite happy where I am, actually. -Favorite Movie/TV show, book, game, demo, music, meal. Movie - Ah, Spaceballs was a classic... :) TV Show - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Book - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Game - Don't play too many now... but Star Control II was good stuff. Demo - Heartquake had some neat effects... Music - instrumental Meal - Food. Food is always good. Food is my friend. I LIKE food. -First computer owned. Commodore 64... wonderful piece of technology, that... (it was when it worked, anyway...) -If you could have three wishes what would you wish for. Happiness, a better computer, and more wishes. :) -How you discovered demos. My friend Avery, who eventually became our head coder, EnigmaLogic of SCS, magically found a copy of Cascada's Cronologia a couple of years ago. (as you can imagine, we didn't get too many demos around here until not long ago...) And we liked it. A lot... Then a month or two later, I downloaded Unreal, and that's when I pretty much decided that hey, I LIKE demos. :) -Group name, list of members. Superiority Complex (SCS for short), 7 members: EnigmaLogic (Avery Pennarun), main coder DNA (Dave Coombs), musician, some code sometimes HCl (Marko Happonen), miscellaneous stuff, some code Tribula Nighthawk (Len Bougie), graphics, some code Quantum (Kurt Claussen), graphics Accidental (Jeff Thiessen), musician, some code Gogen (Paul Glinker), coder -What do you like/dislike about the demo scene. Well, first off, I DISlike that the demo scene is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY the heck over there in Europe. :) However, I do like that it offers demo-folks a chance to be creative, to put good ideas into practice, and some friendly competition. :) -What is your opinion of the US. Hehe, ask ANY Canadian... :) No, seriously, it's not that bad. In fact, most of the people there are pretty cool... -Career plans. Haven't decided yet. I'll work on that when I go into university... :) -Biggest disappointment in your life. OOOOooooooooog...I don't know. I'm generally a pretty happy person. It'd take a lot to really disappoint me. -Good advice for others to heed. Whatever you do, never, EVER, stick the innards of a 3.5" disk inside your CD-ROM drive and shut the door. Oops? :) -Tell us something we should know. Mi tio es enfermo, pero la carratera es verde. -What two people today would you like to meet. Hmmmmmm, I'd certainly like to meet some European demo-people... there are NO demo people around these parts, except for us... (unless they're not telling us or something...) -What do you hope to accomplish in the demo scene. Well, we know we'll never win anything, but we like entertaining people. We make our stuff as interesting as possible. It's far from being technically perfect, and it's hardly state-of-the-art, but heck, at least it's usually funny. :) -How long does it take you to compose a tune. Anywhere from a half hour up to eight months. Depends how dedicated I feel like being. Both extremes HAVE occured. :) -What tracker do you use to compose music. ScreamTracker 3.01beta. Still waiting for FT2.... :) -Demo plans. Chickens, of course! EVERYBODY needs chickens... :) -Do you think most demo groups are too serious. Quite often, yes. Though it's certainly nice to release a totally serious, mind-blowing demo with awesome effects and stuff, ...well, it's hard. And those demos can get old quite quickly. Humourous and light-hearted demos are a lot more fun to watch, and usually people will watch them again. And again. And again. That's our goal. :) -Personal life--what else do you do for fun. Well, I play music, I write music, sometimes I even LISTEN to music, I love Star Trek (the spinoffs, anyway...can't say I care too much for the original series), ...and I like golfing, and modeming, and Internetting, and eating, and sleeping, and watching TV, and talking on the phone, and... -What does the future hold for you. If I knew, that would ruin all the fun! :) -Where do you see the demo scene in the next 10 years. Unfortunately, way too serious. The effects will keep getting better and better and faster and faster, but the light-hearted, comical aspect of demos might be altogether lost. That would be BAD. We need more groups who make funny demos... :) -What do you feel is missing from the demo scene. CHICKENS! Nobody uses enough chickens! -Will Virtual Reality ever catch on. I dunno, I'm kind of fond of the REAL reality, myself... (sigh) -How can we contact you. Telepathically? No, probably not. Well, my Internet address is dcoombs@tourism.807-city.on.ca.
