A word from pariah about the ascii scene
by pariah (1 March 1998)

Over the past few months countless people have written about the lack of enthusiasm in the ansi scene and what they thought must be done to get things going in a positive direction again. Obviously some of those people knew what they were talking about because in the past month or so the ansi scene has seen a lot of revivals, new groups, and an overall burst of enthusiasm.

The problem is that there's this other scene called the ascii scene. The ascii scene is going through what the ansi scene just went through. Over the past year the number of groups has gone down to two, and enthusiasm is at an all time low. Since the ascii scene is considerably smaller than the ansi scene if one of the two groups that currently exist happened to die or merge the ascii scene would be pretty much dead. Unlike the ansi scene it'd be extremely hard to bring it back to full force since there aren't too many ascii groups that could be revived. In other words, everyone should try and make some effort, even if it's just a little to keep the ascii scene alive. If you're already a reputable ascii artist and don't like the lack of variation in the groups then start your own. If you don't draw ascii or haven't drawn an ascii in awhile, load up Aciddraw and give it a try. If you need motivation go download some newer packs from ftp.remorse.org. Ascii's a great medium, it'd be a shame to let it die.
