  Article about the the scene
by Tainted (Jan, 1998)

Many people believe that the art scene is dead, or is dying at a fast rate, I myself was one of those people at one time. Alas, I have seen the light. Ansi, Ascii.. and whatever other mediums may fall under the category of the so-called ' dying scene ' are not just blocks and characters for people who are to old to play lego. Art is art, and an art cannot die, Ansi is an art, thereforit cannot die. Just because there may not be near as many art groups are there was in the past, By no means does it say that ansi is dying. Ansi is not always ment to make bbs's (bulletin board systems) look good. Ansi, as i said, is an art.. art is meant for ones viewing pleasure. Therefore, If there were no bulletin boards left on earth, it is no reason to quit drawing, or to put others spirits down by telling them they are doing something useless. When a pack is released, People have comments towards the pieces of art that are contained.. whether they be good or bad,.. Notice how bbs's are never mentioned once in that thought. My point is, ansi is not entirely based around bbs's, nor are bbs's based around ansi. Ansi is art, and is to be viewed for ones personal pleasure.

Im not going to go about writing up my life story as how I became the person I am today, and why I draw ansi. I beleive most artists draw for the same reason, whether it be to further explore the art of what can be done with a limited number of shapes and 16 colours, or to just add another art to the many they are familiar with already. I hope that in reading this, some people might have different opinions towards the art scene today, and in the past. The scene might be one of the lowest factors in most peoples lives, but thats natural.. a good life is more important than most arts, but remember this, Art is a hobby, ansi is a hobby.. Hobbies are to be done in your leisure time, and are ment to be fun.. So if you can accomodate with those factors, then your well on your way in enjoying the art of ansi. I draw ansi for fun, and will continue to do so for as long as I can, And when I and other fellow artists have had thier time and put away thier palettes, I hope that new and fresh skill takes the spots of those people.

Many people believe that there is not much to say when it comes to writing about ansi, they may or may not be right, But my article has only been written to help change peoples thoughts over the negative side of the concept. If I were to talk about the positive side,.. well.. lets just say I hope you have a lot of time on your hands.
