You will also notice a few topics have been 'copied' across (manually typing them in) so the base can get started. These messages where basically the ones which had the most traffic, so if I was going to try and save any, I thought these would be the most sought after.

With only a few exceptions, that's what seems to have happened (prematurely - it's still january, by my calendar) and previously alive conversations have been canned!

This is no way to run a discussion base. Only eliminate bases with little to no activity, not ones which are arbitrarily too old!

I move some representative of our scene go talk to them (at
www.united-trackers.org) and introduce them to discus, so we can have let another linked-scene-discussion. I've noticed that since the hirez and lit.org discussion bases went up, we're getting cross-scene pollination - lit writers participating in hirez discussion, ansi artists participating in lit discussions, etc, and hypothesize that this would continue to produce good results if we could harangue them into it because their scene is so parallel to ours in some ways but different in so many.

That is a great idea.. I'm wondering if maybe this association of discussion boards could benefit from some kind of name for it.. any ideas?

Also, exactly how customizable is this software, anyway? Do you think it would be possible to mod it the way people modded BBS software? I might be interested in helping to work on a project to add some simple graphics here and there to give a little more style to the various boards to give them some identity.

As far the sidebar goes, it can have anything in it as long as the links are there.. The actual message base tho: well.. Yeah, it can be reworked (colour wise, etc) but once you start wanting to change major things, the perl has to be attacked. (I don't think we're allowed to do that on this particular piece of software)

awesome.. yea.. the sidebars seem like they could definitely have a more interesting design, especially since it doesn't have to be reloaded all the time, maybe it could be somewhat complex.

Maybe we could get the photomanip/design guys who are used to designing for web pages to do it. I don't think I'm really qualified myself.

Mouse - as an aside, please do some consultation next time another board promises to blossom out of acheron to its own board.

Some shit went downon lit.org today which we all saw coming but would like to minimise repetition of in the future if at all possible.

Back on the current topic, there might be some interest in having parallel web design, warez or demomaker discussions - does anyone have any semi-authoritative (in the way acheron is the ansi scene web authority) site addresses in those departments?

Let's review the facts:

1) Cthulu didn't mention anything specific before Blue Devil foamed off at the mouth. Cthulu said that "shit went down". And it did.

I saw what happened, and from what I saw, both Cthulu and Argon were censored. (They announced that they would be boycotting lit.org - temporarily or otherwise - because of their being censored.)

2) This has little to nothing to do with Scrollz. From what I understand, the censored messages didn't even mention Scrollz. Who mentioned Scrollz? BLUE DEVIL DID! Why? No one will ever know!

3) When Blue Devil said that he had nothing to do with lit.org, while reacting so defensively, he has DISCREDITED himself as an authority on this subject.

In conclusion, BLUE DEVIL: Smarten up!


4) And this seems to be common sense but I'll state it anyhow: I don't have these perceptions because I live in the same building with Cthulu, or Thext. (Nor do my non-art-scenester housemates effect my perceptions of these events.)

Thext, Cthulu and I are all in differing art groups, and we often disagree with each other. Thext and I do not have any loyalty to Cthulu when we are posting.

And wacky as it may sound, our thoughts are independent of each other.

The thing that annoys me the most is that these stupid personal arguments end up popping up everywhere. Like, basically every cthulu post has an accompanying bd flame following it, wherever you look.

I dunno that it's always BD that's responsible for these stupid attacking defenses (though in this case it is). Cthulu seems to know how to push BD's buttons and partakes in it pretty commonly elsewhere.

Cthulu, Since Lit.org has been representing the entire lit scene for ages, I didn't think twice about it.. And since I did look at the board before I changed it and saw most of the lit 'heavyweights' were behind it, I didn't see any point in leaving the acheron lit discussions open.

Something is wrong with using a general scene resource for personal entertainment. Once a precedent is set its contents lose credibility and it becomes only as useful as the IRC.
