ok, i thought we should talk about #ans. first a bit of history. (sigh i'm sick of re-telling this :)

anyways #ans was started by maestro, then later him, all the legion guys and a few others hung out there. later on the word caught on, and everyone and their mom was in there. yadda yadda yadda, the end.

but now maestro and a lot of the #ans pioneers are gone, except a few. so, the 4 of us got sick of the channel turning into more shit it already was, so we booted the bots that were in there, and brought back amnesias bot.

but then EVERYONE started "i was on the old bots, can you +m me??"

why do people want ops so bad? and why in the hell do people get ops, bitch about wanting +m?

we tried opping a few, that didn't work, we tried opping everyone, that didn't work. so now we sort of are opping a few. and now people bitching again about wanting to run their bots in #ans, and being added and the like.

so i guess my discussion topic is, what's the big deal?

well, the big deal is, dont op a fuckin person at all and we all be happy together. or something

Not only is Dieznyik banning me for completely selfish reasons and over a difference of opinion, but he apparently doesn't understand what "fascist references" means. Let's look it up, for those of you that aren't quite as enlightened:

Nazi:

1. #ans is no better than #ansi. The only difference is that the #ansi REJECTS hang out in #ans, which is
PATHETIC enough, because #ansi is pretty sad.
2. Dieznyik is a complete and utter ego-ridden idiot that misuses terms he pretends to have intricate knowledge
of, e.g.; fascism.

In the begining it was a nice refugee camp from ansi but now it's almost a concentration camp ansi style. When you annonced it to the world even all the takeovers began. However let's not dwell on the past. Well let's see now mostly ans is still about art but people keep bitching about ops, Well yanno what everyone had ops it didnt work, now only a few people have ops and it doesn't work you just can't make some people happy. I remember how when I used to just FIND a phone number, and then search everywhere for the NUP, it gave me a feeling of satisfaction that is missing from this pseudo-scene that we have now. i don't draw as much as i used to simply because i don't have as much time as i used to. however i still do load up acid draw occasionally and play. so yes i draw, just not for the masses. the enjoyment i used to get out of releasing my ansis to the world got lost somewhere in the midst of "WAH's!" and "BOO HOO's!" and as a result, everything i draw remains on my harddrive for me to look at and go "wOW! dAS nEAT!@". i have no intentions of drawing for another group and if i do decide to ever release any ansi art to the public it's going to be under a title that

i wont bother you with soap stories anymore (if you want them, then mail me), but i wanted to say that a lot of irc channels are lame, or even 'unnecessary', but i can still have a good time hanging in #ans with my homies so shut up

Everybody should know by now that if you want something resembling order on IRC, go to a specific group's channel. It's not a guarantee that there won't be stupidity, but usually someone has something bordering on a clue. For instance, #ice and #dark have been home to quite a few intelligent conversations lately, and nobody begs for ops. If you're in that group, maybe you get ops. It's slick as KY, without that greasy feeling.

Yes, #ans started out great. "Going public" shouldn't have to equal turning to shit, but these things happens. 15 year-old ansi fanboys dish out ops the same way interns suck dick to the top. "Oh baby, oh! I opped that elite do0d and now I'm his buddy! Maybe he'll be a guest artist in my grewp SaC!" I think a good way to decide if someone should have ops is to give them ops and see how they react to beggars, hacqu3rZ, etc. If they can handle it, good for them.

I think #ans could still be an OK place for ansi artists, but the people that CAN keep it under control should be the only ones with that power. Not to go overboard on this, but isn't it better to be feared than to be loved when you're in charge? Word to Niccolo Machiavelli.

in my opinion you'll always have problems with ops in a large channel such as #ans, unless you organize it well... set up a voting committee, hold weekly meetings, release an #ans newsletter, hrm, what else, set up a discussion base about the channel, and have bots greet everybody who joins.. "hi, welcome to #ans warpus! have a great day! we hope you enjoy your stay!" or just leave it the way it is now and shut the fuck up.

seriously, i haven't had many problems in #ans. the only thing that i suggest is, if somebody asks for ops - kick them. ops are only a status thing, and we are mature enough not to need that. after all, we are all here because art is FUN!

Split the order of "Eliteness" by making the channel +m. +v everyone who is cool, instead of +o.. give +o only to a few people who know what they're doing.

That way insecure people can feel eleet without having ops.

you can have bots (to make sure the channel is occupied and prevent anyone from GETTING ops) but the bots themselves don't need ops.

If morons idle forever, no one is hurt (and it's not like the status quo has done anything to prevent idling) and as for idiots saying dumb shit... I wasn't just being pacifist when I suggested ignoring them. Any good IRC client should have an ignore function which will prevent their little irritations from ever reaching your eyes.

Convince me that ops aren't just a power thing. Convince me that my solution is insufficient.

Personally, I have rarely had ops in #ans, except for the odd time when Filth or some other smart person spreads them around and I suddenly find myself at the top of the names list.

And well, I never really needed ops.


People say #ans has turned into #ansi. But do you remember who ran #ansi? Does MayTrickZ ring a bell? Stupid fucks that had absolutely NOTHING to do with the art scene. Now at least, ansi artists run the main channel. Except for that BlueDevil guy, anyway... I think that is a major improvement. If a big artist was starting to bash an #ansi op, he'd get banned, because obviously those lamers couldn't handle criticism very well. And that was running for two years. Now at least, the artists that deserve respect have access to the channel. So well, 10-15 ops making sure artists still have access to the channel, and that's it. I think we're getting somewhere now.
