I'd like to know what artists' interests are outside the scene? All I know so far is that Creator snowboards, Quisling does photography, Maestro does music, and Luke Skywalker gets his ass kicked at quake2 by me :)

Oh yeah, I also will be working on a few games this year.

I work in radio as an on air DJ personality. I'm trying to work my way into a better market where I have a larger listener base and an even larger paycheck. I also do independent production work from my home studio which I just began work on recently. I specialize in station ID's, sweepers, breakers and spots. I just got done producing a set of liners that were done by a voice over jock from omega productions (www.omegaproductions.com). When I'm not trying to be a Radio GOD I work with kids as the premier DJ Personality at one of the hottest roller rinks in the country, Interskate 91. I love kids and I love entertaining so it's a really fun place to work and believe it or not, they pay me pretty well. Heh. It's also been a good place to get exposure and has contributed greatly to my local fan base and in getting my name out. I promote myself and my radio broadcast every time I work there. It always helps when people can actually see the face behind the voice they hear on the radio. Because of my strong connection with the teens and local "youth market", I've been asked to make appearances at alot of local youth related events like "Teen night" at one of the local dance clubs. Teeny boppers are so goofy. :) When I'm not doing that, I do promoting under my own label. Me and one of my partners are going to be putting on a series of dance parties and events this spring that are going to be BIG. So if you're ever in the western mass area around that time drop me an email and I'll get you in for free as one of my guests. :) I also have a series of personal projects that are in the process of being organized, one in particular that's a fresh new form of entertainment/listening experience set to debut in the summer of 99. As if all of that wasn't enough, I also work full time (monday thru friday)for a very ambitious company called RCN (www.rcn.com) that's goal is to be the nations leading cable, internet and phone company. It's a great company to work for and gives me plenty of time to logon to the web to post on acheron. :)
My passion has always been music. I play piano and guitar and write all of my own material. I love all kinds music but the majority of my material has been strongly influenced by poppy indie bands. I also happen to be a HUGE dance music fan and love everything from freestyle and hip hop to house and drum & bass. Recently I decided to be brave and enter the world of electronica as an artist as opposed to just a listener. I've experimented a bit but haven't produced anything yet that I feel is worthy of being heard by anyone else besides me. Heh. WHOA! I WROTE A FRIGGIN BOOK!

Things I'd like to do: find some people with similar mindsets and the proper skills and get the fuck to work on some kind of new bbs software that I'm always obsessing over but never doing anything about. I'm also seriously considering donating this computer to the university radio station and helping to set up some kind of internet broadcast. It's a public station that plays stuff a million times better than all the commercial stations out there. More people need to hear it. And I need to get a new system, anyway.

As from attending university and trying to get myself a Masters of English Lit degree I spend my time smoking herb, hanging with friends (which entales all the usual shit - video games, drugs, drinking, movies, etc etc), dancing to drum and bass (roomate and a couple best friends are are drum&bass/jungle/house djs.. so I tend to hear alot of electronic music), writing poetry and fiction, drawing (graf, pencil, ink, ascii), talking on the phone with my best friend and love in Red Deer (I'm in Vancouver.. sucks.. my long distance bill is massive since Sprint rolled back the unlimited deal.. motherfuckers), drinking extra large lattes with cinnamon on top, eating sushi for lunch, and trying to get laid every once in a while.

A few of my favorite things about where I live would be the ocean, the mountains, the beaches, the beautiful campus, and the abundance of herb - I mean, really - if you're ever in Vancouver and can't find weed you've gotta have COP tatooed on your forhead or something, cos it's everywhere.. from the 8 year old kid who lives next door to me (he buys a dimebag every couple days) to the old lady across the street who's smoking it for her cataracs (she buys by the ounce.. w00p).

What I aim for in life is to be happy, be loved alot and love others, and ultimate to make a living with my writing.. which means stories about all of you people.. =]

other than art scene stuff, let's see.. i'm, for some unknown reason, serving a four year sentance in the united states army (ack!). i'm stationed at ft. hood, texas. i'm 19 years old, i'm big into music (listen mostly to punk/hardcore/grind/techno etc..), i'm a freelance illustrator and aspiring tattoo artist, starting school this summer studying video technology, effects, mixing, editing, and filmmaking techniques, with my friend christian i do live video mixing at raves and parties, i'm learning animation, i'm a recreational drug user :), i ride my skateboard, i'm basically a big media dork ;). and i'm a professional punk rocker. and my nipples are pierced.

any other punk/raver kids out there in the scene? or in the military?

I listen to a lot of punk rock, techno, jazz, metal, etc. I also do a lot of tracking on my spare time (using Impulse Tracker) - I actually put more time into this than my ANSI, yet I haven't released any of it for a long time. It's mostly drumnbass/jungle type stuff.. I'm planning on burning a few tracks onto a CD or something, and maybe doing something with that.

I'm going to Capilano College in North Vancouver, where I'm studying computer programming (C++), Calculus, and a couple other courses (fiction and business math (quantitative methods)).

I used to skateboard a LOT, but weather isn't so permitting these days, plus I've kind of lost interest in the activity as a whole. I ski occasionally (well, not in the last two years, but I suppose I should get off my lazy ass and do it), and I've never snowboarded (but I would like to try it).

I have been playing piano for about 7 years (took lessons for most of those 7 years, and made it to grade 9 conservatory then started taking jazz), and guitar for about 4 years (never took lessons here.. my dad's been playing for like 30 years, so he taught me quite a bit).

Drugs.. well, not so much anymore. Since I'm going to school, I've decided not to work, so I'm a little short on cash.. drugs is the last thing I want to spend it on.

ok, a bit about myself...

i am currently studying computer science at the university of waterloo, in waterloo ontario. however, RIGHT NOW i'm working in london, ontario at an insurance company (co-op work term). what do i do here? well, they say that i'm a developer, but i spend most of my time posting messages on acheron. :)

i too write music in impulse tracker, it has been something i've been doing since 1992, even before i got into ansi! the first song i made was written in modedit v1.0, and if memory serves me correctly, it was written without the use of a soundcard. i've written about 350+ songs since, but i don't release much of my stuff. you can find some of it in dark packs.. i write anything, really.. dnb, ambient, trance, techno.. whatever i feel like at the time.

i LOVE soccer - i watch it and i play it. my favourite team is chelsea... however, i must say that i will always cheer for poland, since i was born in poland.. and since they're the best team in the world.. ANYWAYS, i also play tennis, racquetball, i like to swim.. and do really crazy dives. i've won the 'crazy diving competition' at the local swimming pool here two years in a row. (applause). oh yeah, and don't forget bowling. i'm the inventor of the world-famous superman bowling style. what i do is this: i place the bowling ball in my hand, i run towards the lane, and then i jump, head first, holding the ball in front of me. when i'm about to hit the floor i let go of the ball. then i land on my stomach/face. it hurts, but it's fun. one time i even got a strike.. i've had the attention of entire bowling alleys when i did this (i haven't in a long time).. people went up to me asking me for more.. THAT'S HOW GOOD I AM.

reading.. i do a lot of that. i mainly read sci-fi (i own around 150 sci-fi novels), but i'm also interested in things like european history, older american history (aztec, inca, etc..), egyptian, greek, and so on. so from time to time i will read something like that. my favourite novel is 'krzyzacy' (the teutonic knights) written by a polish author (of course), henryk sienkiewicz. he's won a nobel lit. prize for 'quo vadis', a novel about ancient rome. i still haven't read it, but highly recommend anything this guy's written. it's been translated into most languages, including english, so you can check it out. you WILL thank me. :)

ok, this is getting pretty long, but what the hell.. i kind of collect coins, all kinds.. i've got coins from about 10-15 countries.. poland (pre and post communist), czechoslovakia, czech rep, germany, italy, france, england, mexico, etc.. i also have a small collection of stamps, but i stopped doing that when i was 12.

camping is fun. just ask quip :). 3g of shrooms each, and we were having a blast. i'd get into details, but there's just too much. let's just say that we were right by the beach, there was a cliff, forests.. very very nice area. we went on many nature hikes.. the next time i went camping there i got really drunk and started chopping trees down with an axe. (so much for nature) i think i got about 4 of them, and they weren't small either. then i had to stop because the axe handle broke. THAT'S HOW STRONG I AM.

i listen to all kinds of music. currently i'm really into ska though.. my favourite bands, in chronological order: europe, napalm death, sepultura, nirvana, alice in chains, a bunch of punk bands, the hi fives, big cyc (polish), more punk bands, jean michel jarre, the planet smashers.. i'll pretty much listen to anything, as long as it's not country, rap, or a mix of both. actually, i went to see the cardigans last week, and i had a blast. i got my picture taken with the singer (nina, i think her name is), so yeah, THAT'S HOW GOOD LOOKING I AM.

i know it's hard to believe, but i also like movies. my favourites include: dark city, 12 monkeys, usual suspects, pulp fiction, 2001, THE PLANET OF THE APES, star wars, running man, and more... favourite shows: kids in the hall, monty python, tom green is interesting, news radio, i really liked x-files when they weren't popular, outer limits, MR.SHOW, babylon 5 and so on.

oh yeah, and i have a K-MART shirt.

Yeah, doesn't everybody LOVE star wars? In my experience, no :) And I've also found its mainly a guy thing -- more males like it than females..

All the latent homoerotic tension, I wager.

Come on, all of those male characters on the Millennium Falcon and only ONE Princess Leia?

Sure, they have droids and wookees to relieve their sexual tension, but still...

funny thing: my sci-fi english prof was the only person in the class who had not seen star wars. we made fun of him because of it.

dangermouse: did you see the last voyager episode? the 2 hour long one? in my opinion it was the best 2 hours of star trek EVER.. i liked it way more than any of the movies. i like what they're doing with voyager and ds9, it's kind of like.. babylon-5, it's all one story.. ds9 is about the founders/dominion and voyager is about the voyage home.. sure, tng started with q and ended with q, but most of the time the episodes were not connected (enough).

while i'm at it, i might as well recommend some great novels..

1. lord of the rings (the only fantasy book i've read:)
2. dune
3. ender's game
4. a canticle for leibowitz
5. rama (the 1st one isn't as good as the last 3)
6. the stand (the only stephen king book i've read)

anyhow...

cthulu: wasn't leia the only female (as far as we know) on the death star?

warpus - a good selection, though I'd put the dune books on top and add orson scott card's other two ender books. and rama? welp, we'll just say that arthur c clarke was a better scientist than an author.

as for leia on the death star... hey, how do you know what gender stormtroopers are under those costumes? So far as I can remember, aside from a few dancers and singers in Jabba's palace, a couple of Ewoks and one senator later on, she's the only female in the entire bloody trilogy.

What if R2-D2 is a female droid?

Hey, Lukes mom is female. And maybe some of the aliens in some places, like Mos Eisley. Mon Mothma is female.. some of the rebel troopers are female.. bleh.,. there are women in star wars!

Luke's mom wasn't a female, she was dead. That was Luke's Aunt Beru. :P

(But then she was dead, too)

And don't forget that dancer chick with the tentacles hanging off her head that gets fed to the Rancor!

As far as books go, DUNE. DUNE. DUNE.

This is not by coincidence that this house is named Sietch Tabr. Muahaha. You all want to live with fellow scenesters now.

cthulu: i did like the second ender novel better than the first one. however, the first one is still a classic :)... dune - i've only read the first one. twice. i have as of yet not gotten into the other ones... i keep reading other things. no time!

the only thing i didn't like about rama was the ending..

other books worth checking out:

time ships by stephen baxter
nightfall by isaac asimov
anything by ben bova.

oh yeah, i heard that they're going to make ender's game into a movie.. and i've also heard that card is working on a 5th novel in the series.

i'm not much of a reader (infact the only books i ever read were a day no pigs would die, the catcher in the rye, and then there were none, and the chocolate wars - all books for english classes :)

anyways, my moms friend let her borrow this book called "left behind". it's about the big 2000 rapture thing about the end of the world, and the hell vs. heaven thing. and i'll tell ya, relgion is a grey area for me, but after reading this book it really opened my eyes about the whole thing. if you ever see it, pick it up (it's only 138 pages).

I track. Lots. well, not LOTS lots, but i take tracking pretty seriously.. i've been tracking for about 3+ years now, and my style is usually non-mainstream stuff, though it's getting there. I say, leave all the drum-n-bass and techno and ambient music to tricolore and all the other 95% of the tracking scene who is already cranking that stuff out. =) If you've opened a blender pack and found a music entry tracked by some dude under the name of handiboy, you've heard my stuff. Oh yeah, I placed 7th in the intermediate category in MC6, a huge international tracking competition. YEAH, I KICK ASS. GO TO HORNET.ORG, GO TO THE MC6 SITE, AND LOOK FOR MY ENTRY (M6I-NEOF.ZIP). DOWNLOAD IT. ASK ME TO SEND IT TO YOU. TELL ME HOW MUCH I KICK ASS. YEAH.

ack, here's more. for some reason i can't post anything remotely huge. ah, well.

i'm interested in pretty well all forms of science fiction, but i'm also a HUGE star trek fan. although i don't look at all like the stereotypical trekkie, my knowledge of Star Trek (minus the original series) tells a different story. I've got a huge kickass Enterprise-D poster, Marina Sirtis / Brent Spiner / Michael Dorn autographed pictures, the Star Trek Technical Manual ( give me a couple of minutes and I'll explain to you how, say, every component of the transporter systems works ), the Star Trek Encyclopedia, five ST novels, and a paper-mache Picard marionette my brother made when he was in grade 9. one day I want to get myself those new black/purple starfleet uniforms. Those things look all kickass and warm.

TNG is the fucking bomb. DS9 was a little too boring in the first few seasons until it became all about the Defiant and the dominion and awesome battle scenes and Worf and war in general, at which point it started kicking ass. oh yeah, Nicole DeBoer =). Voyager is alright, but it can't measure up to the perfection TNG was able to achieve. The cheaply-made cgi ships they're using way too frequently now are starting to remind me of B5 (which i don't like as much). I'd to see the Voyager back in the alpha quadrant, so we can keep up on all the kickass alpha-quadrant-based stories that made TNG so fucking kickass.

I enjoy playing volleyball. That's like the only sport that i'm good at. Not that I enjoy things like basketball or soccer or hockey. I do. I just suck. I also like playing a few good games of european handball, you know, that game that's like basketball but with hockey nets and goalies and the use of your arms, because that's when i go fucking nuts.

I also play a fairly active role in my church's christian fellowship. I'm kind of like an unofficial moral support kinda guy who prevents the fellowship from becoming boring. oh yeah, i'm doing the website. check it out at members.xoom.com/byf_. that's right ladies, i'm a christian. i'm not baptized, though. oh well, i'll leave it till the day before the rapture.

I play the piano, although i'm not that good. I took it up to grade 8, but i quit after that because my fingers are clumsy, and i couldn't sightread worth shit. I had some violin lessons before piano, but i quit that too because of the same reasons. I think that I have a lot of musical talent; it just don't translate well through my appendages. It's best invested in things like composing and tracking. I'm getting interested in drums, though; i've self-taught myself to the point where i can serve as accompaniment for worship singing sessions at my fellowship and other church services. Then again, any idiot can play drums.

I work, play Supermario World with my 4 year old daughter, and watch tv and movies during the week. On weekends I attent my daughters dance class, hang with my group of friends and drink ourselves silly, then the week starts over again. I guess when you become a dad at a young age, your hobbies kinda end real quick. Its cool, I like my life and I love my wife and daughter.
