gotta say, good idea!
i mean, this concentration is better than groups producing everything mixed up together. especially if there's always shit in the air.

i don't see there's much use for this kinds of groups in scene (if you don't manipulate bigg b00bsters & dared bloody monstazh), so you guys have to drop some standards like already died file_id.diz's, make the homepage destinated to public, discuss about it on alt.art and so on .

I've been trying to talk to atom about this, but guess I'll just bring it up here..

Does anyone else think that Synopsis is a really dumb name for this group? :) I don't see the connection at all.. It seems to me that if you're finally going to have a group for a REASON, then you really should have a name for a reason, too. Maybe I don't see it, but what does a "brief overview" have to do with photomanip/design? A brief overview would seem to me a negative term, lacking any real substance or something.

I think the basic idea itself is great, though.. and tomi's ideas are good ones, too.

ahhh blech. me massive and xray went through a 2 hour naming session, and came up with a dozen names... we finally setlled on synopsis... other names: denizen :), plan b, kklone.... we setlled on that because it makes one wonder and curious.

lice, your right... "brief overview" sounds like "compromise" for me, too. that's negative term when it's about art, imo =)
i like names that doesnt mean anything. thus they are neutral.

if you want to use it, why not translating it to french, or something =).
for finnish it's "Yhteenveto"

Ahh, I thought that the name of the group was 128 and that the webpage was just linking to a synopsis of what the group was about 8)

If you want a real name, feel free to come to me 8)

Why the hell would he want some lit guy naming a vga group? The name is fine if you ask me. It fits perfectly for what the group proposes to be. I am excited and looking forward to it, but does this mean atom will quit hrg and dark ?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Cthulu of Mistigris (cr618396-a.crdva1.bc.wave.home.com - 24.113.55.86) on Friday, February 19, 1999 - 03:47 pm:

BD - why would you want a lit guy to give a name to your group?

The same reason I'd want a graphics guy to design the logo for it, or a music guy to make its theme song, or a programmer to code its appgen.

Working with words is what writers are supposed to do well 8)

A. You have nothing to do with the group.

B. Who are you to tell them their group name sucks? ( Did you magically become some Hirez authoritarian over night?)

I could go on giving you more reasons but I will not. This is just another instance of you not minding your own Damn Business.

heh funny as Usual cthulu , arrogant and self dillusional as always, I guess some things don't change even if the medium of art be discussed is.

Telling me that I "have nothing to do with the group" when I have applied to it and am in communication with the group founder is incorrect.

Ergo, you don't know what you're talking about.

A world where truth is arrogant would be a scary place, and on that basis I hope that people like you never attain serious positions of power in the real world.

Don't let me get you down, though.

SO, how about that Synopsis group? Atom, tell us some ways it wil different from any other group out there.

Will it release in artpack format? Why or why not? Will it have a conventional art group hierarchy? Why or why not?

Alright quit it. I won't tolerate your (BD/Cthulu) ranting here. This is just plain silly. Just quit it, OK?

Btw, synopsis is kinda weird thinking of what it actually means.

well, wierd is better than stupid. :) the group i hope will be different in the art, focusing on more design/photomanip.. but thats kinda obvious. i want to model the structure of the group a bit on hrg, i really like the file naming system, and the fact that theres no group hierarchy is appealing. a democratic art group so to speak :) i will use the artpack firnat, because its established in the scene, and i really cant think of a better alternative. What would be ideal, actually, would be a sort of a demo/slideshow, but thats not cross platform, (java demo? :P) and requires a bit more of a domanding computer than your standard image viewer. also, i dont know anyone who would code it

Atom- can you elaborate on the 'democratic group' concept? We tried that with mist way back in 1994 and it crashed-and-burned.

How does this work?

look at hrg. there is no senior staff to speak off. not democratic in th way that we vote on everything, but that there is no senior staff. if someone wants to join, it isnt one persons decision, its everyones. i dunno really, i havent thought to far through that yet. im sort of mirroring it abit on hrg

Basically the way HRG works is that there are a few people who tend to organize things, release packs, coordinate events, etc. Right now it's basically Shere, Iron Lung, and Sprocket (well I guess not sprocket anymore..) who do this for most things, and it works well since they live nearby each other. These organizers aren't positions written in stone, though. They simply end up being the most efficient people to do it, and I think everyone in the group generally agrees. They have actually directly asked the rest of the group before if anyone disagrees with who's organizing things, and I don't recall any complaints, only praise.

On issues like new members and such, basically everyone is shown the application, and people voice their opinions. Everyone has a say who wants to. Maybe it ends up that the people who are more active in the group have a little more weight to their opinions. So it's all a pretty organic process, it seems to me.

It's very, very different from when I was running fire. I'm pretty sure this method would never have worked there. People seemed to require constant reminders from a central source in order to get anything accomplished for the group. I think it's a testament to the cohesion of the group that we're able to work together this way.

look at all the fuzz that started with our name:P like, it got ppl thinking. exactly its purpose!
one of the things i think will be different with synopsis compared to other groups, is that everyone in it does art in the same theme. and we're all friends, and not in it for the 'i wanna rool the group, rool everything and get all the credits for making it and my way is the only way'.
hehe, well, i dont think synopsis will be like anything else...we'll just have to wait and see, maybe it wont ever be anything, or maybe it will be everything..i dunno, and so do you.
me talking rubbish shit again..
love.

Cough you all were inspired by lk- and bd's mad joints in the cia and acid pack. Heh =) Personally I like doing hirez based on graphic design for webpages. It was fun. We got to doodle and at the same time we got to do header graphics for webpages , like shelley's skapunk page which made them useful. Indeed I can see this as becoming yet another field of hirez art. The only question is will people accept it?
It makes the art more than just about appreciation.

bd, what do you mean inspired, todo what ? the group? the name? if it is the name, all the inspiration we got for that was irc, for one hour...and thousands of other names scrolling over the screen in a mad brainstorm :P and for the group...i think it was, i dunno, one of us, that first got into the idea several months ago...
