Report: The Party 2000 written by Magic of Nah-kolor The Beginning.. Times have changed for the annual event The Party.. Dark clouds are hanging above Aars, the city where TP00 is hosted. Negative vibes from alot of sceners are a threat to the Amiga side of The Party! To commercial.. To high entrance fee.. To much quake players.. The feeling has changed, once The Party was the highlight of the year for the whole Amiga scene, now The Party is down-grated to a mainstream event. Because of these reason's most of the Danish Amiga scene is even boycotting TP00 (!) "TP Stinks.. Better support smaller party's like TRSAC and ofcourse Mekka/Symposium" Booster of Loonies tells me when I asked him about this boycott the morning of the 27th December when TP00 started.. But ofcourse Devotion has the responsibility to cover TP00 aswell.. Atleast the Amiga side of the event. Let's see what happened in Aars/Denmark.. TP'00 Impression People arrived and set up their computers.. Many gamers as usual. The party network looked stable on first sight but ofcourse it wasn't.. I meeted Optima who recently left Scoopex for Haujobb on the IRC and asked him for some comments: "Not many scener's present I meeted Blueberry though. Das Saints concert has Just started it Rocks!" At 05:00 tuesday morning the intro competition started.. A bit early, especially when the demo competition starts Tuesday at 20:00 pm, a more suitable time.. Anyway, Haujobb (2nd), Nature (1st), Mankind (with a PPC intro) (3th), Spaceballs and some unknown Polish group competed in the 40k intro competition which isn't so bad at all looking at last year.. The lack of visiting Amiga scener's also was noticed by Rawstyle of Lego: "Didn't see many scener's I know. Even not the Haujobb people who I always meet at Mekka/Symposium. But there is still time for them to show up, and we will have our own Party here so.." The big screen is just fine.. No empty tables to be seen at The Party 2000 I heart from Mrs Carrot of Darkness. A Talk With The TP00 Orginizer At The Party 2000, the Demo Lab is the place were every entry goes to for the competition's.. Thus also our beloved Amiga productions, pixelled graphics and 4 channel modules.. The orginizer at The Party who is responsible for the competition's and running the Demo Lab is Fessor. Devotion had a small talk with him. Fessor has been coding on the Amiga since 1989 but he stopped 3 years ago and switched over to PSX for like two months but it wasn't a succes so he turned to PC. Fessor has been in some small amiga groups like Noisevizion,Suburbia and TPDB but no big releases have seen the day of light except a pc demo at ms2k which got 5th. Magic: "I heart that TP now allows entries after the deadline has gone by.. How did this happen ??? :) If a demo group needs 2 more hours it's no problem??" Fessor: "Since we went back to our roots!! :) If they need 2 hours AND we can fit it into the program here in demolab then it's no problem at all.. For example last year we got an 40kb intro DURING the compo.. Some drunk big finnish Loveboat member delivered it.." Magic: "How do you guy's check if the competitors are actually present at The Party ??" Fessor: "It's a general rule that people are to be present to compete, but (DON'T quote me on this) every once in a while the checks miss a contrib or two.. Normally we try to find the people, but with all these online systems and stuff.. It's almost impossible.." Magic: "I heart that last year the Loveboat crew cheated like hell with votes.. How does the votesystem work this year ?" Fessor: "I know :-( .. This year it's printed votekeys on armbands.. You vote online you can't get the votekey from someone unless he removes his armband..." Other Remarkable Facts.. Chaos of ex-Sanity fame visited The Party 2000.. He even competed with a great PC intro with design and gfx done by Fiver (ex-Artwork?) .. and won with almost a 700 (!) points difference.. Metal Designer of Scoopex with help of Kalms/TBL released a nice PC demo.. All help came from Amiga scener's like Noogman,Alive and Acryl for the grahics and Virgill and Laxical for the music.. Nice.. The Amiga demo competition consisted of five demos.. Optima's Megademo done with help from Haujobb, Ephideria were the 2 best demo's from the demo compo. Graphics Competition.. Peachy won the pixel compo.. (again!:) This time a naked woman with some small dragon next to her.. (Winning combination Devotion think's :P Noogman of Scoopex got 3th in the pixel compo but has some serious criticism to air: "I have been to many demo party's since I started demo scening, but I never saw so many GAMERS like on The Party 2000. I wanted to get connected to irc, but all people were just leeching stuff like Games, Porno Videos, and so on.. That was not Funny.. The Network seems only working on some tables correctly and the organizing at TP'00 was really bad.The Sleeping halls were full and they woke you up when you slept at your Table. That's not good.. I have supported The Party with my pictures since the The Party 1991 but I will not support The Party anymore in the Future because it seems there are only Gamers present and not much Scene People.." And Noogman is right. TP'00 doesn't serve Scener's primairy anymore.. It has merged to a multi media event with competition's not as primairy goal.. Other nice graphician's who competed in the TP00 pixel competition were Zaac of Mankind, FarFar of Loonies, Made, Cougar of ex-Sanity, Cheetah of Eph, Fusko of Mangoo and Mawi, Visualice of Haujobb and also TMK of INF (pc) is worth to mention with his 2nd placed picture.. Read the review of the graphics somewhere else in Devotion.. At TP'00 there wasn't any 4 channel module competition just a multichannel compo. A pitty.. Epiloque On the irc, reporting life from TP'00, Zeppo of Mangoo, Emoon, Psycho of Loonies, Rawstyle of Lego and Optima of Haujobb, could be found. Even on TP they could not resist their addiction :)) The Party has definately lost it glance for the Amiga Scene; It's History is all that is left as attraction to release some great production's.. Mekka/Symposium is now THE event for Amiga Scener's.. (If it wasn't already:) It's a shame.. But nothing lasts forever I suppose.. Read the next article for the Results.. End.
