SLEDGE HAMMER SPECIAL EDITION PROLOGUE CREDITS PARTY REPORT CHAT COMPETITION DEMO REVIEWS LEMON. IS DEAD LEGO IS BORN MIXED NEWS SHIT SPREADING UGLY FACES CRM'S WORDS ENJOY THE LOGO ABSOLUTE! SINCE 1879... EXIT TO DOS A chat with an organizer The Party '93 - not just the Party, but really with a capital T. I have just never ever seen or heard of such a professional organizing. Excellent! No power problems, no space problems, just no problems at all! I just couldn't stand not to have a small chat with one of the guys running around in purple T-Shirts calling themselves organizers. SH: Gosh, this party is BIG! Can you tell me how many people showed up? ORG: At this point of time... (HE IS SEARCHING FOR A PAPER)... yes, 2682 guys are present, but the party is not over yet... (WIDE SMILE) SH: WoW! And I've seen quite a lot 'purple shirts' running around. How many organizers are here? 100? 200? ORG: No, not that many, but the number should be around 60. As I see we are enough to cope with everything... (WIDER SMILE) SH: With this amount of people I guess the party earns its own money... ORG: Hmmmm.. Probably.. SH: Could you mention the major problems you had/have? @ ORG: I'm just here at the Information, but I had no big problems except for dealing with SOOO many people's SOOO many questions... SH: Do you personally have some time to enjoy the party? ORG: Not much, but that is not my job here anyway. SH: What do you think about the competitions? ORG: I have not seen any demo... SH: OK, I see you have some other tasks than chatting with me, so bye for now.. ORG: Ok. (SMILES) @\@\ Demo reviews from The Party '93 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1st place Origin by Complex (AGA) Code: Gengis Music: Clawz Graphics: Mack, HoF, Titan, Alex Not reviewed. Read "Shit spreading!" article for details of the sad event. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2nd place Full Moon by Virtual Dreams (AGA) Code: Doctor Skull Music: Heatbeat, Jogeir Graphics: Jaco, Alien, Kerberos @ Virtual Dreams, the new generation in the scene life, has once again approved the hopes. They are not too strong in music and graphics, but the young programmers code amazing things. The first music were done by Heatbeat from CNCD. Unlike most of his modules, this one is really a hardcore piece of music. Not too bad, nice for fans. The second music, the endtune by Jogeir of Spaceballs is a very mellow tune. Very cool, indeed. The demo lacks some nice pixels, but the only picture by Jaco is a masterpiece. This picture became the official T-Shirt picture for VD. I can say only one word for the code: amazing. So many breakthrough new effects in one demo... Doctor Skull introduced us to lodsa original new ideas. Twirling pictures, new glowing-fire effect, new kind of plasma, texture map room and so on. The demo lacks design a bit, the guys should have included some more interesting links between parts. Anyway, a very nice demo for your collection. Code: 8/10 points Music: 7/10 points Graphics: 6/10 points Design: 6/10 points Overall: 8/10 points ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3rd place Arte by Sanity Code: Mr.Pet Music: Moby Graphics: RA Sanity has once again approved Chaos' statement: "1993 might become OUR year". Terminal Fuckup, Interference, Boggledop and now Arte; all high class demos. So let's see what Sanity had to add to The Party 3. This demo was promised to be out in the summer, but as always, Sanity breaks promises... The first thing you realize about this demo is that it has LOADS of excellent graphics from Sanity's new French star: RA. His pixels are not just perfectly drawn, but he has brought the scene a new style of graphics. Quite a big thing, if you look around at the state of graphics nowadays. The music by Moby is another guitar tune (in fact two). It is truly amazing how the thre 'parts' (code-music-graphics) fit each other. Frankly, the first really designed demo from Sanity, and it kicks ass. The scene begged for a designed Sanity production; here it is, and the code is stunning as always! The code can really stand the competition with Origin and Full Moon - without the need of an AGA chipset! In my opinion this demo should have won the competition. Mr.Pet (with the help of Chaos and McByte) offers us new kind of tunnels, zooming, rotating AND twisting picture, fast vector world, and soooo much more. All in all, a perfectly formed and timed Sanity demo; kicks ass in every aspect! Code: 10/10 points Music: 10/10 points Graphics: 10/10 points Design: 10/10 points Overall: 10/10 points ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4th place 9 Fingers by Spaceballs Code: Lone Starr Music: Travolta Graphics: TMB Designs Finally, the sequel to last year's winner demo is here. Not much to write about - while other groups still use Lone Starr's routine from SOTA, here is how much the invetor developed on his routine. The demo starts with an ugly picture by TMB. This picture looks like scanning, but I don't believe that TMB would scan. Scan or not - quite ugly. Then the demo starts with another techno tune by Travolta, but this time it is below the level of Condom Corruption. The demo itself is, well, ready to go on MTV... This time the digis are not just outlines but (I guess) 8 color animations. They are sometimes even put on a cube's side. Very stylish indeed, but SOTA shocked me harder. Anyway, Lone Starr is still alone at the top of the hill of techno-demos. Rave ON! Code: 10/10 points (idea) Music: 6/10 points Graphics: 4/10 points Design: 10/10 points Overall: 8/10 points The HOT group: LEGO In the following lines we have an interview with LEGO, a new group found at the Party 3. They have already released a 40K intro, and seem to be a nice and funny team to look out for. Opinions and questions were quite various about them, so let's be the first to present an interview with the guys. SH - SH R - Rackler (Organizer, swapper) D - Decca (Organizer, swapper) S - Sire (GFX, Music) SH: Don't you think LegO is the most childish scene group name ever? R: Well, aren't we all children? Lego is a great name in my opinion, becoz with Lego we can make a lot of things. We have a lot of nice ideas to design our future projects. SH: Do you think you can be a funny group without having the letters of Melon in your group name? R: You really think Melon is a funny group? It's no secret that I don't like Melon! I liked their style in the beginning, becoz it was something new and different, but their last productions really sucked! And I don't compare LEGO with Melon... SH: Have you ever been to Legoland? R: Yeah, ofcoz! That gave me some great inspirations (NO)! I think it was about 4 years ago, when I had summerholidays... SH: Why did you found LEGO? D: All of our members were in more or less nice teams before, but these teams didnt satisfied us much, and due to the fact that we were all good friends, we had the idea of LEGO. SH: Don't you think that Camelot is a LOT bettern than LEGO? D: Hm, good question. I think CAMELOT is a very known group (on the 64) because they are very long in their scene, but LEGO is quite new, and we hadn't much time to show our real talent. So wait and see! R: Ofcourse Lego is alot better than Camelot (who the hell is Camelot), becoz this group is only active on the C64, and we are on the Amiga, so we are for sure much better... SH: As you claim to be close friends in Germany how can Rodney of Sweden come into the picture? R: Simply becoz Rodney is also a good Friend of us, a talented Graphician and he also wanted to join up with our nice little team !!! But he will be the only (!) foreign member of Lego, becoz otherwise it would be too difficult with organizing and cooperating between the members. SH: Wasn't it the same in ABS!? Deja vu... R: No! Lego is not the same like Absolute! We left that group becoz most members live in Hungary, and we hadn't a close contact with them. I really like Abs!, but as the cooperation wasn't that good, we decided to leave and builing up our own team here in Germany, where we have a better cooperation, simply becoz all members live in the same country. So Rodney will be the only foreign guy in Lego! D: Hey Fester, what do you think about our team and our first production? Good Fester: Rules! Absolutely cool! Bad Fester: About who? No you lamers don't seem to have anything to show for us!!! SH: What are your plans for the next couple of months? R: Well, as the bad fester said, we lamers don't have anything to show anyway, so we don't have any plans for the future ... ! Or ... let yourself be surprised! SH: Frankly, what would be your point in the scene; just friendly fooling around, or goinig for that mighty #1 place? (Don't tell me BOTH): D: To be honest! Here in germany are so many big and lame groups that the real good ones are only a few groups. And as you know, we want to keep our team small and effective, so that we can be above the average! SH: Aren't you afraid of being compared to the other 'new' German sensation: Essence? D: Try to execute the new Essence 40K-Intro on an A1200! And then try it with our 40K-Intro, it runs on both A500 and A1200! R: The German sensation??? I think Essence are the guys which are afraid of us...(just kidding!) @ SH: Why did you just release a 40K intro and not a bigger production, and show that you are something special? D: We have planned a TRACKMO, but one of the coders was forced to go to the hospital last week, and so the best routine was missing. And so we released this freaky 40K-Intro instead. R: But You can be sure that the trackmo will follow soon... SH: After seeing your 40K intro, it seems that you don't have a new unique style (except for sick jokes). Do you oppose? S: My dear old friend, I would like to introduce a completely new style perhaps by letting the scroller flying some inches in front of the screen glass! But unfortunately that is impossible, demos and their forms have their limits (of course, when you should create a full 40k-intro from zero in less than one week), and in the future we will surely try to break some of these limits, and let's see how far we come! SH: I guess we have covered almost every possible topic about this new German team, and only time (and Rackler) will tell us how things are gonna turn out for them. D: Many thanx for this great and fast interview (hehe)! S: Our hearts flew truly over of this honest interest in our future! Perhaps you have noticed that most of these questions were quite sick/boring, my only excuse is that it was made live at 2 in the morning of Wednesday. Camelot thing = We were just watching the 64 demo compos and Camelot showed us veeeeery cool things. I have heard that the 64 is going strong, but I never imagined THIS! Lemon. has died! At the beginning of the Party, some rumours went around that the Danish and the UK divison has left. At the end, things still were very confused, the only fact was that the group is over. As an editor I just couldn't miss the story so I went around searching for infos, and here is what I have found out. The questions are mine, but I don't remember which Lemon. member said what, so you won't find names. Anyway, these infos are from Lemon. members so they should be considered as facts. First, the facts: - The Pride joined Movement. - Julius will most probably join Kefrens. - Hannibal and J.A.D,E. moved to England. - Dan, Nuke, Paradroid, Hannibal, J.A.D,E. are working as full time game creators. - Facet was asked to join Spaceballs, and he is likely to join, but only if the whole remains of Lemon. can join aswell. - Seen/Melon Dezign is happy. Now some questions, might be interesting for the scene: Why did this suddenly happen to the new number one group? The Danish and English guys have decided to leave the group, because the have too much work at Core Design, and well, they have to make a living. After this happened, we thought Lemon. would not be the same without these friends, so we decided to let it die. Now we are indies, but perhaps Spaceballs will be the group for us. Will the planned productions be released? I guess, you won't see a demo from Dan, Paradroid or Hannibal. But the other planned prods will be out, but under an other label. Be ready for Lizards musicdisk! Some words from Melon Dezign: Seen: We squeezed them! Walt: Oh, we have just made peace and friendship... Mixed news from The Party 3 Absolute! Everyone was very satisfied, rested for a while, then, the time has come for checking the stuffs again. Sanity demo - gosh! WoW! Unbelievable! 9 Fingers - Yeah! Coool! Origin by Complex - Fuck! It doesn't work! Ohh... Rednex demo - Bitch! An empty disk?! Yes, it wasn't just my case, but hundreds of other freaks were fucked over with the winner, and the Rednex demo... Seems like someone (guess not the creators) tried to have some free new stuff by spreading these two cool demos without having them; this was my first thought - and I was right! The guy was a local lamer, now richer with some megs of free 'downloads'... Very nice idea, but, I guess most of you suffer from the consequences... Anyway, always check your important stuffs at the party to avoid some biiig turn-offs! The Party '93 A report by me I won't detail the things I went through before setting off to this event, getting money and the rest, I guess you all had the same problems. Anyway, I was quite lucky that I could travel by plane, so I had quite a nice trip to freezing Denmark. WW, namely Wolfman and Wreko of Balance were waiting for me at the airport. I started to get excited, because this was the first time I have MET with the scene. Going to Wolfman, the car fucked up, police came, we went. After a chatty night at William, at 7AM we left off from Copenhagen train-station together with some Balance and Parasite members. At around 1PM wer arrived to Herning, where we took the nice partybus for 10 kroners. There it was. A huge, modern building full of every scene guy's dream: the scene itself! I walked towards the Information, where I very suddenly got rid of 150 kroners, and got a pink wristband for it, what ment to be the ticket. Nice idea. "Lamer Fester!! Ho-ho!!" - a voice from behind. A quick turn, and I stood face to face with HIM! Raging eyes, muscles of Hulk, brains of Einstein, body of Tom Cruise. No, actually it was just Ben of Absolute!, but quite nice for a start to have a friend there. OK, in we went. A turn to the right, then a head-turn to the right (nice kiosk-chicks), and we were into a huge hall full of guys I have never seen. I was really shocked by the sizes of the place, but as NOW I know, it was just the beginning. Jean of ABS! came from the shower, asking me how I like the happening. "It's HUGE!" - a replied. "Now come and see the BIG hall then!". I couldn't believe to my ears. If there is a big hall, then where am I? A quick walk to the other end of the corridor. We went through the door and... After I was washed up from the floor, I took a second look at the big hall and... After I was washed up from the floor again, and after ca. 53 blinks in 5 seconds, I realized I wasn't dreaming. (Now note: if you haven't been to a big party like this, you have experienced only 49% of the scene life.) I went around some circles, then I returned to our small-hall. I realized that my mouth is still open.. The partytime was very good, I could meet a lot of nice guys, eat a lot of expensive Danish junkfood and walk my legs off. The first and the second day went by very fast like this. On the 2nd afternoon the climax started off with the competitions. This was the first time I could enjoy a competition live, and believe me, the feeling is fantastic (I couldn't beat it anyway..). Big claps or "buuuuh"s came from every corner of the room. The display was very big, but quite outta contrast as always. OK, some words about the competitions: Intro: Some very nice intros, really high level. The winner, Virtual Dreams definitely kicks ass. Other nice intros cam from Essence, Dreamdealers and Balance. Music: Quite a flop. Lodsa bullshit techno music, some nice tunes, but not very cool in general. Note that some assholes played their stereos on full blast, so the sound was not too good for the ones sitting far from the speakers. Also this year, the jury voting for the 30 mods that can compete made some lethal mistakes. Techno vs. Jogeir, Lizardking, Lizard, etc. - 1:0! Graphics: Gosh, this was amazing. 50 pictures, around 45 top quality, nearly all the famous graphicians competed. Lodsa dragons, more chicks and heroes. It's interesting that 70% of the entries were AGA. It was almost impossible to decide which was the best, but Cougar was lucky. Demos: Oh no! It's very disappointing that on an event like this only 5 out of 30 demos worth a look. The other 25 were not average, but pure shit! I wouldn't look at them for more than 30 secs... But the 5 noticeable are very very nice. So, after the compos the atmosphere went back to normal, the guys continued chatting, copying, porno watching, eating and so on. he organization was beyond perfect (read the interview with an organizer some articles further). All surprise compos were held, no power problems, no prize cancelling, no drunk fascists, no carrier. OK, this was it for a quick party report, read the other articles for a complete cover of The Party '93. Prologue Another party passed by this X-Mas, but not just A party, nor just a good party, but THE PARTY. I was so fortunate to be present, so here is a little overview for those not lucky enough to get there. Last year's party cover by RAW wasn't very successful, perhaps because of the lack of contents. We tried our best to present you as many details in as few days as we probably can. A mag can't reflect the spirit of the party, that's why I strongly advice you to visit the next party held: The Gathering. Anyway, enjoy this until then. Instructions: Just press the left mb on the right side of the screen to turn a page forward, on the left for a turn backwards. Right mb gives you the contents page. Just couldn't be simpler. The next real Sledge Hammer will probably released in March, so please send all your articles and various supports till then. - Fester Credits Party Edition code by CRM Jammin' music by Petroff Graphics by CRM Party Time! logo by Rack Interesting words by Fester Photos by Jean and Fester Party Time - A Sledge Hammer Special is an Absolute! production in 1994.
