After a long time of abstinence apathy is back to release the long awaited sequel to digitalchips#30. *4Read it, listen to the tunes, and feel free to enjoy this issue, *7because it was hard work *4to create it. *2What you are seeing is the result of endless work by the trio behind digitalchips, *7 strife, maze and angeldust. *11Read on, and get the warm welcome you deserve, by both maze and strife. *2Hey there. This is *7mAZE *2writing some lines. Can you belive it? It's issue nr 31 of Digital Chips. That means over 300 *7(!!!) *2chiptunes. I guess I don't have much todo in my sparetime :) *12This issue was meant to get released at the Gathering 2002, but it got finished first now, in July 2002. *11That's a new year again. 2002... This is the 7th year of the DC. I think DC is the longest living Chip-pack ever? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's quite amazing, don't you think?? So, let's look back at how it all started, shall we? *2It all started back in 1995 when *11Skinner of Eltech *2sent a pack with 10 songs I had done. Not that very impressive at the moment, but kindof cool. It was my first own pack, with coding dony by *11Preacher/Eltech*2. It had a retro look with a CD-player displaying the songs and a scroller. A bit like the musicdisk Bacteria made by Crusaders back in the early 90's. *12I used that design for 7 issues, and then Preacher made a new code again. This time DC got a 'newer' look. :) With F1-F10 selection, some info about each chip and it ended up under the Eltech&Massive label. After some releases *11Fisherking/Massive *12made a new design for me. Now the Digital Chips started to look really nice. But at the gathering 1997, Digital Chips entered the Apathy-label and got new design again(from issue#21). *11Strife *12coded it, *11Pix *12 made the menuGFX and *11Psycho *12made the introPic. I used that design for 10 issues. But, today, I'm proud to present to you, the NEW Digital Chips. And, hehe, DC has turned out to be a chipmag-pack. With again, great code by *11Strife*12, superb GFX by *11AngelDust*12. And, music by me, strange.:) Hopefully you'll like this new design as much as I do. *2If U want one of the old issues of DC, please email me at: mAZE@c2i.net, and I'll send it/them to you. You can also use that addy to drop me a nice letter. I'm 'almost' always interested in new contacts. :) And, you all can also reach who through ICQ at: 85744491. *12If someone of you who were in contact with me in the periode 1993-99 reads this, please send me a mail. It would be great to get in touch with you again. *11If there are some of you out there who needs a tune for your intro, demo, game or what ever, please do not hesitate to ask me. I'll gladly make a tune. Both Amiga and PC. *2As meantioned in earlier DCs, I've done a CD, and ofcourse, you can still get it from me. Just drop me a mail at mAZE@c2i.net and I'll send you a copy of 'Amazeing' right away.. It still costs 100Nok. 12 great tunes all in all over 1hour of pleasure. *12As always in this welcome texts, I don't have a clue what to write. So, I'll leave the keys to Strife now. He always has something on his mind. I just have to say to him: Great work again. :) *11 Ok, over to Strife. *4 Ahh yes.... *11 I am extremely pleased to finally be able to welcome you to this issue of digital chips, without doubt the issue having been put most work into ever. *12 I am tempted to say, and yes I will say it: *7You are experiencing the best chip-pack since friendchip by haujobb! *2Like I said in digital chips 30 I would use my time on diskmag/pack coding instead of intro/demo coding from then on. That was 12 months ago, here we are today. I hope you are pleased with the result. *12Actually I've been working on the code for more than 18 months, as much of it is based on the code for cocktail. You'll find more info about cocktail in another article. Of course I've had a lot of other things to do during these 18 months, so we're not talking 18 months of effective coding. *11The design you are seeing is even older, as it is a repainted version of a design intended for another chippack. Angeldust did this design many years ago for his old group, mantra (formerly known as instinct). *2But the design was never used, so when he joined apathy we planned to use the design in a chippack planned for coma. *2But coma didn't seem to be all that active after all, at least not like he was in his glory days in 3 little elks. Finally we decided to let digital chips have the design. Regards must go to angeldust for redesigning this design all those times! *12Digital Chips has gotten a relatively huge magpart compared to the earlier digitalchips, but small compared to diskmags like Disc. Unless we get tons of support we intend to keep the size of the current magpart also for future releases. The plan is to release digital chips on a frequently basis, now that we finally have the new design up and running. *11Unlike friendchip we are NOT dependant on support from the scene. That does not mean that we don't want support, all forms of support is happily excepted. What it means is that you'll for sure see more issues of digital chips than you have seen of friendchip. But for now, I hope you'll take some time and enjoy our hard work to get digitalchips#31 finished for you! *2On the behalf of the dc-crew I wish you a pleasant experience! *19*15*11 Credits for This Issue *16*7*17 *19Are as Follows.... *2*17 *19Music... *17 *7*19...*11Maze *2*17 *19Code & Magpart... *17 *7*19...*11Strife *2*17 *19Gfx... *17 *7*19...*11Angeldust *2*17 *19Intropicture... *17 *7*19...*11Miracle *2*17 *19Clipart... *17 *7*19...*11Pix *17*2 More info follows*8... *2strife/*8apathy *8scener since *21994 *2age *822 *15 *2responsible for code & magparts in *16 the last 10 digital chips issues *2maze/*8apathy *8scener since *21991 *2age *824 *15*2 responsible for the music as always, *16 and parts of the magpart. *2angeldust/*8apathy *8scener since *21994 *2age*8 29 *15*2responsible for the new design, *16meaning panels, buttons and animation *17*15*16 *19*2A Helping Hand *17*11 There are several keyboard shortcuts in dc, the following keys can be used: *10 backspace *12:*2 previous menu *10 left *12:*2 previous page *10 right *12:*2 next page *10 up *12:*2 previous article *10 down *12:*2 next article *10 space *12:*2 index *10 enter *12:*2 next module *10 del *12:*2 pause music *10 help *12:*2 this page *10 esq *12:*2 quit *10 right mb *12:*2 previous menu *10 both mb *12:*2 quit *11There are several buttons in dc, even some that are not visible to the eye. *12Here's a quick walkthrough of those that are not self explaining: *10 piano *12- *2module select page *10 dancer *12- *2start/stop equalizer anim *10 speaker *12- *2next module *10 chip *12- *2the intropicture *12The *10chip info button *12shows you the info for the chip playing, pages are automatically updated if you click the speaker-button. *11On the left hand side of the equalizer animation there are *10up/down-arrows *11to change article. *11There are also *103 buttons hidden *11behind the animation of the issue number and the equalizer. *12Click *10left side *12of the anim to make it go faster, *10right side *12to go slower, and click in *10the middle *12to start/stop the animation. *11If you notice *10bugs in the gfx*11, the bottom cog of the wheel redraws the menupanels. *2DigitalChips is fully multitasking! *12 You can: *12Pull down the screen with your *10mouse+A *11 Press *10Amiga-M *19*15*10 Reactions to *11 Digital Chips... *16 *17*2 "We like this *10font*2!" *11 - The eurochart staff *2 "I like the *10Monkey Mix *2chip!" *11 - Guybrush Threepwood *2 "We *10don't like it*2, give up!" *11 - other desperate chipack-makers *2 "We *10don't like it*2, give up!" *11 - other desperate diskmag-makers *2 "Please *10don't publish *2what you know!" *11 - the squirrelz chicks *2 "I like the *10code and magpart*2!" *11 - strife/apathy *2 "I like the *10clipart*2!" *11 - pix *2 "I especially like the *10menugfx*2!" *11 - angeldust/apathy *2 "The *10chips *2are also nice!" *11 - maze/apathy *2Well as you probably have understood by now, *10we didn't get any comments*11 so we made some up. *2;) *19*15*11 Information *16*7 About the Chips.... *17*12 On the following pages you will find information about each of the chipmodules included in this issue of *2digital chips*12. *19*15*16*3.-[ Offshore ]-. *17 *12 Real numb: *8Chippy Nr.452 *11 Length: *7 3min 05sec *12 Release date:*8 07.02.2001 *11 Size: *7 22214kb *7 Info:*11One of my first chippies in 2001. Maybe you've seen it as intropictures other places like say in generation. *11How can we make a chart when only two persons have supported? Well, that's simple, we can't. *12So we announce the two winners right now; *41. *2Miracle/100% *7- supported with an intropicture which is 159,602 bytes *42. *2Pix *7- supported with 12 clipart pics, which all in all are 111,184 bytes. *11All other stuff seen in the magpart are collected by *7strife *11or made by strife, the main ed. *2Should you participate with anything be sure that you will be honored in the next supporter chart. *19*15*10 How To Participate *11*16 To Digital Chips.... *17*12Not that we think we will be flooded by support by doing this, but ok.. *13Since our magpart is quite small compared to others, we can release digitalchips quite frequently again, now that the new code&design is up and running. *10You can participate with: *10Reactions *12- Tell us what you think, even if you think we suck or whatever. Should cocktail become a success it would have to *11look good *13from issue number one. This meant that high requirements were set for all the work being done for it. *12Sadly the *10menugfx*12 in progress didn't turn out to be anywhere near what was expected, so the hunt for a new graphician to draw the panels started. *13This was however a *10difficult hunt*13 as good panel makers were all busy or fed up of making panels. Not all that strange really, as there were many diskmags and packs being made in the scene, not forgetting *10eurochart *13constantly requesting new panels for each issue. *12The longer the hunt for new menugfx lasted, the *10less horny*12 the girls in cocktail became. Or ehh well. *11Modules*12 were given to other mags, *11articles*12 were getting old, and things started to look *11miserable. *13In the end, all it came down to I guess, was that the people who were supposed to help me with cocktail, among others *10punisher*13 and *10magic*13, did not seem to communicate very well. *12Punisher wanted *10a small mag to release often*12, where as magic wanted *10a mag to top the charts*12, meaning a mag full of great polished articles. *13Magic would not help me get menugfx until he saw more *11commitment*13 from punisher, and I think punisher was more interrested in *10pleasing his girl than pleasing magic*13. *12So here we are today, with parts of the cocktail code *10stripped down*12 a bit and now used in *10digitalchips*12. Not quite what was intended, and we'll hardly get any support from magic or others, so what you're seeing is a *11one man mag*12, kind of like soda's first *10retro*12 mags. You'll find some articles originally done for cocktail in here, now finally released. *17*15*16*10 *19Squirrelz - A Group of Horny Girls? *17*11 Ida & Alv *10 Making Out! *17*12The first to be undressed for the scene, starting a cocktail tradition, are no other than the group *11squirrelz *12which only consists of girls. *13For those familiar with *10slengpung.com, *13you might have already seen the picture of *11two girls making out*13, at the party *10alv2000*13. Maybe you also knew that the girl at the right hand is no other than *10Alv of Squirrelz*13. *11It should be no surprise that the *2cocktail team*11, both *2strife *11and *2punisher*11, also were at this party, together with other norwegian sceners like *10arcane *11and *10sixpack*11. *12Should you believe that we are basing the story you are about to read, just on this very picture, *11well then you *11are in for a surprise!*12 After a bit of investigation we quicly saw that there was more to this, than just that one snapshot. *10Squirrelz *13have not made many productions on the amiga yet, we can only remember *11one*13, an intro mostly done by leia. Still, the group has been around for some time now. *12So, since these girls obviously aren't spending their time on productions, the *2cocktail team*12 started to wonder *11what it is, that they do in their sparetime*12. *13Before we get more into that, first let us give you a *11brief introduction *13of the groups members: *10Leia *12- *2 22 year old girl,*12 squirrelz leader *10Alv *12-*2 20 year old girl,*12 squirrelz slave *10Peaky *12-*2 20 year old girl,*12 squirrelz slave *12Three girls in one group, give it a thought, *11we have evidence that Alv obviously has got feelings for people of the same sex.*12 And, if you're not a complete newcomer in the scene, you might remember a certain *10depth*12 demo from kindergarden7, with the name *10onanina*12. Should you not have seen this demo, we can tell you that it was *11an erotic demo with pictures of *10leia. *12So, we guess now you have no trouble guessing what these girls are doing in their sparetime. *13The cocktail team managed to get hold of *10Alv*13 late one saturday night. She was at home, and could not speak long as she had a guest waiting.*11 The *10cocktail team *11is not known to be shy, and got right to the point, and asked if she had been making out with any girls lately*13. *2Oh, who was the last one you know i've been making out with? *13We quickly showed here the *10alv2000 *13party picture. *2Oh that*12, she said, *2that's a long time ago*12. *2Ofcourse I have tried other girls since that. *13She gave us names like *10yngvild*13, *10åse-berit*13 and *10ida*13. *11Now we're not sure who yngvild is, but åse berit is most definetly *10peaky/squirrelz.*13 So there you have it! Black on white! *11The *10squirrelz*11 obviously have no problems letting the scene know of their sexual life. *12Alv tells us that ida is the same girl which is on the picture we showed her, *11she has done her twice*12. She could also reveal that *10peaky*11 also did *10yngvild*12, so they obviously have no problems when it comes to a *11threesome. *13We asked if there was any particular reason why she did girls, but she could reveal that she had *11no problems doing *10boys*11 as well*13. *12Some thoughts quickly popped into the cocktail teams mind, but then we remembered she had a guest. *13Anyway, should you try to impress these girls, *11don't do it by kissing another guy*13, they don't like that. *2No that's often just brutal and discusting, it's not as fun to watch, alv tells us. *12We couldn't agree less. *13The night was still young for the cocktail team, we had other ladies to visit this evening, and decided to leave. As we walked away from the house, we took a glance at Alv's bedroom window, and there, between the curtains we are 100% positive we saw her guest, *11it was *10peaky! *12Unfortunately, she quickly drew the curtains together, when she saw we had spotted her. But we guess we all have the right to privacy. *2Note from the editor: *12Lately we have seen several productions from squirrelz, this is obviously a cover up since they knew this article was coming... :) *19*16 *15*11 The Bigger They Are.. *10 The Harder They Fall! *16 *15 *17*12It seems that the scene's giants took one step too big, without checking where they put their feet down. There are many cliffs in the amiga scene, and *10Giants*12 seems to have stepped right off one of the biggest. It doesn't look like any of the members have survived this fall, for little has lately been seen in the amiga scene of these once so big persons. And how hard can it be to spot a giant? *13We went on an expedition, searching for the tallest cliff in the amiga scene, so tall that it would kill a giant. And we found it. *12It was a devastating sight that met us, these once so big and glorious giants, now didn't seem so gigantic anymore, lying dead in the dirt. *10Hawk, Wizard, Matarazzo, Hellrazor, Trump, Stan*12, were of the few we could do a positive identification on, the rest were beyond recognition. *13Among all of the corpses we found one bruised and battered person, who was taking his last breaths of air. It was *10Wiseguy*13, who obviously had gotten some flight experience, from his project Phoenix. *12He wasn't able to say much, but managed to cough up a few words. We weren't able to understand all of what he tried to say, but he was mostly interested in his diskmag, *10Phoenix*12. *13'You won't get Phoenix' he said, 'I'm taking it with me into the grave!' *12You can read more about this in the Phoenix article. *13We tried to get Wiseguy to tell us what had happened, and what he could reveal was no less than shocking. The giants had not stepped off this cliff by accident, it was all planned, a mass suicide. All members had a death wish, and those who didn't were pushed off the cliff first! *12Most members obviously wanted out of the scene dimension, and there was only one solution, death. Since Wiseguy was half dead he managed to establish contact with the other dimension for us, the normal life dimension. We were trying to find out what the giants ended up as, and got the following answers: *10Wizard*13 was supposedly working as a computer programmer. *10Hellrazor*12 was rumored to be in the chef business, making food for people. *10Stan*13, the former graphician, was last seen entering the army, and hasn't been seen since. *10Trump*12 moved to Sweden to work with some computer stuff, but is by rumors said to be back in Norway working with something. *10Hawk*13, the leader of Giants, nobody really knows what happened to this guy. Maybe he had too many unanswered letters to deserve a place in the normal life dimension after his scene death, and ended up in some awful godforsaken place. *12As for Wiseguy, well he is still lying in the dirt, half dead, taking his last breaths. But after hearing what he had to say about Phoenix, we decided we couldn't leave him there, and dragged the giant by his feet back to the amiga scene, and put him in a life respirator to hopefully get better. *13Read more about him in the Phoenix article, as for Giants, the story ends here. *19*15*16*11 The Death Of a Diskmag... *17*12Those who have already read the Giants article, probably remember *10Wiseguy *12 giving the following statement about his diskmag *10Phoenix*12: *11 'You won't get Phoenix, I'm taking it with me into the grave! ' *13 We don't know what the average lifetime of a bird phoenix is, but we would guess it's more than the few days of breeze under its wings that the diskmag Phoenix experienced. Anyhow, we all knew from the very beginning, after the welcome section in issue#1 saying *10'Houston! We got lift off!' *13that sooner or later the diskmag would run into a problem. But it seems that this time the problem arrived even before they got out of earths gravity. *12Usually all good things are three, but sadly only two issues of Phoenix saw the light of day. The second issue had several improvements over the first, but still the biggest flaw had not been fixed, the mag still didn't use doublebuffering which made the clipart look very jerky when being drawn to screen. However it was filled with *10interesting articles, good music and nice clipart*12, everything to make an appreciated diskmag. *13What most people probably don't know, is that *10issue#3 *13wasn't far from a release. Wiseguy tells us that he had most articles ready, *10Zack *13had done an intropicture, *10Optic*13 had updated some of the clipart and even done a new menudesign, *10Wizard*13 had also worked some more on the code. *12So why didn't the scene get this issue then? Wiseguy blames the demise of Phoenix on lack of support from the scene, hence he himself wouldn't support the scene either. It appears that especially a small group of people who were supposed to support, withdrew their support. Wiseguy gives us no names, but *10the involved ones know who they are*12 he says, with a grin. *13The possibility of a third issue doesn't seem that impossible though, although Wiseguy will most likely have to do this without any support from the rest of his group, Giants. The only member he sometimes happens to run into, is the coder responsible for Phoenix, Wizard. So should you want to see another issue of Phoenix, then why not give Wiseguy a helping hand, and who knows, *11the scene might suddenly be one production richer. *13But as we said, this depends on support from the scene, something which is a rare phenomenon in the scene of today. *12So until they get some support, we guess *10Phoenix*12 won't spread it's wings again. *15*16*17*11 *19Exploder - A Scene Gangster? *17 *12I guess most people still remember that Exploder released a 4k intro under the name *10Echt*12 at Tg02, and a remixed version by the name *10Klon*12, with a different tune and some different effects at Mekka02. *2This is the story experienced from my point of view. *11I got contacted by Exploder before Tg02 and was asked if I could deliver a 4k intro he had made for this party, Echt. I was not sure if I was going to Tg but told Exploder that I could deliver it through a friend of mine. *12I got the intro released at Tg by delivering it to my friend *10Dr.Sound*12 in the Norwegian amiga scene, who entered it into the compo. As expected, the intro came 1st and Dr.Sound was a bit anxious about having to go on stage and get the prize money, but things went fine and he got the *105000NOK*12 prize money (700$). *2I told Exploder he had won and that we would send him the money as soon as Dr.Sound returned from Tg02. We agreed that Dr.Sound could keep some pocket change for his hassle. *11A few days after the 4k compo at Tg the 4k compo at Mekka was held. To my surprise I saw Exploder had made a 4k for this party as well, Klon. I checked it out and found it to be quite nice, although it was mostly a *10remix of Echt*11. *12Later when I heard it got *10disqualified *12at Mekka I thought that was ok, since a very similar intro had gotten first prize at Tg02. *2Some days went by, and suddenly I saw a newly released results file from Tg, which said that Exploder's intro Echt also was *10disqualified*2. I was shocked! I knew Dr.Sound had returned home with the prize money and was about to send it to Exploders bank account. *11I contacted Dr.Sound to hear if he knew more than me, and *10could hardly believe *11what he told me. The organizer of the amiga compos at Tg had asked Dr.Sound to send the prize money back to them, and Dr.Sound had agreed. *12I was upset, you can't *10go back into time *12and disqualify an intro because it gets released later at another party! Had we gotten a lawyer on the case I am *10100% *12sure we would have won. *2My bet is the Tg organisers were using this as an *10example *2that to cheat at Tg won't work, and to teach Exploder a *10lesson*2, for the second time. Remember he was disqualified at the last Tg also, he had one 4k, one 64k and one demo, and they disqualified all of them because the 4k was too similar to one Exploder had released earlier. I think even that was a bit *10harsh*2, to disqualify his other productions which were not copies of anything. *11But this time, after Tg02 the case was completely different, they were *10punishing*11 him for his actions at Mekka. For what he did at another party in a competition held after he had gotten his prize money at Tg02. *12Anyway, I told Exploder that he had been *10disqualified again*12, something he of course could not believe. He told me to tell Dr.Sound to *10refuse *12giving the money back. The same day I had a long chat with the guy responsible for the disqualification of Exploder, and *10talked some sense into him*12. They were still angry, but agreed that we didn't have to give more than half the money back. I think this was stupid as well, but didn't want any more hassle. *2Later the same day or the following Exploder obviously had a chat with the organizer too. A log from the chat was spread through the topic at *10#amigascne*2. I can't remember anything exact from it right now, most people have probably seen it, but Exploder got really *10pissed*2 in it. Both at the Tg organizers, and the whole amiga scene. *11Frankly, I understand that this guy is tired of the amiga scene. He also competed with a 4k at *10Tg99 *11which won. Back then he had sent the intro to *10Speeddevil*11, but Speeddevil didn't go to Tg. Instead Speeddevil gave the intro to *10Leia *11and she delivered it. Exploder never got the prize money for this intro! Leia kept some of it, but told me she had sent the rest to Speeddevil. *10Speeddevil has obviously kept the rest of the money himself*11, as far as I can see. I'm ashamed to say I used to swap with this guy. *10And the story goes on... *12I remember Exploder did a 64k intro for *10Kindergarden *12just half a year before Tg02. Back then the organizers wanted to disqualify the intro also, because they thought they had seen something similar before. I and *10Frequent/Ephidrena *12took a look at it before it was run in the compo, and told the Kindergarden-crew that this intro was not a fraud. Ok it did look similar to the style Exploder uses in all his productions, but you can't disqualify a guy for not changing his style. *2Well to my surprise I later saw in the results that they had disqualified him anyway. I just thought *10'those stupid drunk organizers'*2 and didn't think more about it, as people don't get big cash prizes at Kindergarden anyway. But it was surely strange, after we told them the intro was fine. I don't know if this has been corrected in some later version of the results which I haven't seen, or if there was some other reason to why it was *10disqualified*2. *11Anyway. This is the never-ending story. After some back and forth the Tg crew told Dr.Sound to send them all the money. They were going to send it to Exploder personally, because they didn't trust in Dr.Sound and *10didn't like that he would get some pocket change for his hassle*11. Well Dr.Sound sent the whole amount back, 5000NOK, to the Tg crew. *12Late in June I contacted Exploder to hear if he had gotten the *102500NOK*12 he was promised. .... Of course he hadn't seen anything of the money!! I was shocked again, this just shouldn't be possible. They get us to deliver the money back to them because they don't trust that we will send them to Explorer, and once they get it they keep all the money themselves. *10Editors last note: *2Well now in July Exploder told me he had finally gotten the money from Tg02, although he only got *1040%*2 of the original amount. He also told me he never released any intro at *10Kindergarden*2, so I don't know what it was I saw there. It seems that even I can't *10quite understand *2what is really going on around this guy. *17*15*16*11 *19Strife's Story - Past & Present *17 *12My first contact with the scene was through *10kefrens *12'*10desert dream*12' back in 1993. I didn't really know where the demo came from, or why it was made, but I thought it was cool. *11It was a guy in my class that showed it to me*12, among other things like new *10games*12, *10STAG*12, and so on.. The second demo I saw was *10Budbrain Megademo*12, which I also liked, although it was very different. *11I don't really know if I understood that what I had seen were demos*12, but I thought both these productions were cool. *12How I got from there to where I am today I can't quite explain, but I started to collect demos just like I had collected games, and sooner or later I wanted to make demos myself. *13It did however take some time until I understood there were lots of people swapping stuff through mail, *11but the day I realised this I got all excited and wanted to get some swap-friends myself*13. *12My first real 'famous' contacts were *10Bon/Neo*12, *10Skinner/Eltech*12, *10TFT/RNO*12, *10Splatterhead/Fanatic*12, *10Coolio/GHD*12, *10Jay/Ultima*12, *10Hawk/9design*12, and also a bunch of other guys, which sooner or later ended up in the group I founded, Apathy. *12About one year after I started to swap I had 35 contacts which I exchanged letters with frequently, once a month or even twice a week, some were faster than others, I usually answered letters the same day I got them. *11Other known people I knew now were *10Kestrel/Syndrome*13, *10MJ/Iris*13, *10Dr.Death/Eltech*13, *10Insomniak/Redline*13, *10Raze/Ambrosia *13and *10Felix/Massive*13. *11I could also mention a bunch of Norwegians*13, but they might not be all that known to the people left in the scene today, so I'll leave them out. *12Early 97 my swapping activity was as high as ever, I had been swapping for 2 years++, had 50 regular contacts, and even got many contact letters which I never replied, simply because I felt I had enough swappers and didn't have time for more. *11One day I still remember*13, was a Saturday in the summer*13,*10 I got 7 different packages in my mailbox*13. I should maybe mention that I had sent out *1125 letters*13 the Saturday before. *11Normally I got one or two packages a day*13, days with an empty mailbox were rare, which was good, *10because to find the mailbox empty was a great disappointment*13! *12Unfortunately I got busted for stamp faking not long after, and after that my swapping activity dropped quite much, but I still kept on. *1096 and 97 were without doubt my glory days in the scene*13, everything was great. It has never been like that since, one big reason is pherhaps that *11I served my military duty during 98/99 *13and when I returned to the scene contact was lost with many of my friends. Also the scene was far from the state it was when I left it, *10tg96, tg97 *12and *10tg98 *11were all great parties *12where as *10tg99 *11was a real downer. *12The years after the millennium have not been bad scene wise, but it's definitely not been like it was before. Now in 2002 almost none of my old scene friends are active any more, apathy has shrunk into a hardcore team where the only active people are *10myself*12, *10angeldust *12and *10maze*12, not that it really matters, as we are making better productions than ever before. *13If the situation does not change drastically from today *11I think I'll stick to the scene for quite some time*13. But if my best friends like *10punisher*13, *10angeldust*13, *10maze*13, and other friendly people I know in *10ephidrena*13, *10iris*13, *10rno *13and so on disappears, I fear I won't bother to stick with the amiga much longer. *12I haven't stayed with the amiga because I'm a fan of the hardware or the operating system, *10I sticked to it purely because of my friends in the scene*12. *15*16*19*11Jp#10 - Oldskool Doesn't Mean Ugly *17*2 This is going to be a *11very negative article*2, but with an easy start, just because *11we appreciate Zitos hard work. *2Skip the next pages if you don't want to see the 'flattering zito part'.*11 *2The positive things first, because there were some parts of Jp#10 that we actually found nice. *12For starters, the gallery part is actually quite cool, except for the fact that the scroller is irritatingly close to the bottom of the screen. *11The intro is rather funny; *2it seems to have a random start. Some times there is just displayed a text logo saying [S]carab, but I've also seen an ascii logo saying Scarab, although it was a bit hard to read. Nice touch anyway! *11The same thing is however also done in the diskmag itself; *12it shows two different intropictures randomly when the mag is executed. Both pictures are nice, but really, we've already seen this in the intro, I think that's enough. I prefer the start of a mag to be the same every time. *11Jp10 also has some other nice features we haven't seen before. *2Listing and selecting articles by author was a nice feature, although it wasn't very usable as it was too much hassle to return to this menu. There was a lot of 'blablabla' before the menu started, it should have been possible to return to this as it is to the index. Guess they'll improve it later. *11But lets get down to the real problem, the oldskool menu design stinks! *2Let me just refresh your mind, pink buttons, blue background, yellow text with occasional green and purple in between, and green background behind articles. *11The design in jp#10 looks like a 2-day mock-up in my eyes, it's freakin' terrible. *12This is really sad as I'm sure this issue of Jurassic pack as usual contains many good articles. But by making a daring, I'd even say dumb, design like this, the Jp team takes a huge risk. Most likely many will find the design to be so disturbing that they don't want to read much of what is written in the anniversary issue. Some might not even bother to check the mag at all, seeing the dms packed archive. *2At least the design seemed very disturbing to me the first time I checked the mag. I quickly went through some of the articles but wanted out of this misery as soon as possible. *11They made random intropictures, but what they really should have made, were random designs. Then the oldskool design could have been acceptable, actually it would have been cool. *12The same goes for the music, there's only oldskool music, why not at least *11one *12normal module too? I am of course not accusing maze/apathy and dascon/iris of being poor musicians. I'm sure they have made what Jp requested from them, the modules are *11really *12oldskool. *11Zito writes that they tried their best to make us feel like back in the early nineties, I however feel more like in the late eighties. *2It is actually ironic, Zito writes in his welcome text that they wanted to make something special which we would like to check out more than once, something we would remember. *11I'm afraid the only thing this issue will be remembered for, is being a flop. *2It's ironic to read Zito's articles where he complains about how Disc annoys him, especially the music. Listening to oldskool modules for an hour or two can be quite annoying as well, not to mention watching the awful colours they have clashed together. *11Seeing that Zito mentions a secret mag within the mag I must say I started to wonder if the Jp crew had done like I wanted, and made a watch able newskool design for us in addition to the standard one. *12Well I searched for this secret part, it was not easy to find, actually I didn't find it at all! I only found some text saying that the hidden part was for some unused clipart. *2Now Zito might call me stupid since I did not find it, and maybe the secret part really is worth hunting high and low for. *11But maybe it's just Zito's way of trying to 'trick' the sceners to read all the articles.*2 It irritates me that I searched for it and did not find it, but I'd just be more irritated by searching even more. *12After reading jp10 for an hour or two I must admit that I was starting to get used to the design, but I fear most people won't give the mag a chance, seeing how it looks. *11I was not far from supporting this issue of Jp with some articles, knowing how they would have looked, I'm glad I never got that far.. *2This article was done without any research of other people's opinions, meaning that the scene might disagree with me. I totally disagree on much of the things written in Zito's review of disc#13, so I guess Zito totally disagrees on my review of jp#10. *12Nevertheless, if you didn't like what Zito has done to Jp, then please let him know. I'd hate to see another Jp looking and sounding like issue#10, and judging by the readmefirst file this was not the last oldskool issue: *11"For the next oldskool issue we are now searching for a skilled coder to provide us a trackloader." *2Come on, Jp#10 was dms packed, and now this, a trackloader in 2002? *11Creativity is nice, but this isn't creativity, it's insanity. *2Most likely there are sceners today that haven't seen that many oldskool diskmags, I think Zito is giving them a completely wrong impression. *11 Oldskool does not necessarily mean ugly! *17*15*16*11 *19Take The Scene Addict Test! *17 *2When a person has been in the scene long enough, he starts to realize that he's *11never going to escape*2. He's trapped in the scene, his life doesn't really contain much else than the scene, *11his biggest passion is the scene*2. His biggest idols are the legendary men behind some of the most legendary productions of the scene. He spends large parts of his days in front of his scene-machine, either working on something, communicating with other sceners, or just watching old or new productions. *11So, are you at this stage? There are a certain number of criteria's you can ask yourself to check this, but most likely, if you are at this stage you are probably aware of it, although you probably won't admit it. *2Does any of the following match your life? *7- Instead of going to school or work you stay home in front of your scene machine. *2- Instead of getting some sleep you sit up half the night in front of your scene machine. *7- Instead of going to a party with friends, you stay home with your scene machine. *2- You haven't got any spare change, all your money goes into phone bills, stamps, and new equipment for your scene machine. *7- You don't have time for your family, friends, or anyone, you don't even have time to get a haircut. *2- In the summer you look just as pale as Michael Jackson. *7- Your vision is getting worse for every day that goes by, you're eyes are all red and sore when you look in the mirror before going to bed. *2- People start to sniff when you walk by them, and you wonder when your last shower was. *7- Your feet can hardly bring you around anymore, you get completely exhausted when carrying your equipment to a scene party, your only muscles are in the right arm because of wanking. *2- Your stomach keeps roaring for food, but you ignore it. *7- You start telling lies to people when they ask what you've been doing lately. *2- You often find yourself having passed out in front of your scene machine. *7- You are bored to death if you are more than one day away from the scene. *12If any of the above criteria's was something that sounded like your own life, then you are certainly well on your way to getting trapped by the scene. The only thing to comfort you is that you are not alone. Many sceners sooner or later hit this stage, some get out of it, but fall back into it after a while again. *2Have you ever wondered why many famous sceners make the process of leaving the scene so drastic? They seldom fade slowly out of the scene or give their work on to someone else, they decide that this is it, and kill all their productions so no other persons can continue them. Often all contact with the scene is broken for good. *12This is most likely the only way to ever get out of the scene should you ever want that. There is no such thing as partly leaving the scene, you will for sure get dragged in 100% again if you stay in touch with the scene. *11The scene is a drug, the sooner you face it, *7the better... *17*15*16*11 *19Oops What Did I Just Say! *17 *2Are you one of the sceners who only manages to read half an article before you fall asleep? *11Fear not! *12We have gathered some of the *7funniest highlights *12from other recently released mags for you. This will be a regular column with typing mistakes and other funny stuff found in other mags. Flip the page to let the fun begin, first out is something from *7JurassicPack9: *11'We lightened candles and started to talk while the frozen pizza started to get warm in the *2electric cooker*11' *7- Zito in JurassicPack9.*12 I'd think twice before eating pizza which this guy serves. Cooked pizza? *11'No computer, no amiga, just him, my letter, a coke and his *2coach*11' *7- Adonis in EuroChart44,*12 letting us know that Gone likes to read Adonis' letters together with his coach! *11'The most incredible thing is that they do not even care if us real elite sceners walk by and *2yell lamers or porno leechers.*11' *7- Adonis again, in EuroChart44, *12telling us his favourite things to do at parties. *11'I for one would like a *2total ban on alcohol consumption *11at any scene party' *7-Amorel in EuroChart44,*12 probably after one beer too many at the last party he attended.. *11'For the next oldskool issue we are now searching for a skilled coder to provide us a *2trackloader*11.' *7- Zito in the JP#10 readmefirst file, *12trying to be innovative doing oldskool in 2002. Or did you simply *2skip them*13, being the *12slime ball*13 you are? Well here we are any way, *2you and me*13. *12I keep asking myself, *11is dc#31 really finished*12, is there really nothing more that has to be done. I even wonder, *2have we done too much?*12 Compared to the first 30 issues, digitalchips#31 is *11huge*12, except it still has the normal *210 chip-modules *12by *10maze*12. *13Maze did have big plans for an *12intro *13to the whole thing, but I simply felt *2I had more than enough to do*13, besides, I've never been *12much good *13at making intros. *12Having been responsible for sketching out the new *2design*12, doing the new *2code*12, and the whole *2diskmag section, *12surely I've had my *10hands full*12. *12What we have been working on for so long is *11finally unveiled *12for the scene. I can't help but wonder how the scene will *2react. *12Will it tell us we did a *11good job*12, that we *11stink*12, or won't it *11react at all? *12My guess is *2the last alternative*12, but please go ahead and *2surprise us*12. *13I actually don't feel any *10desire*13 to release this at all, it's been *12really nice*13 to have it all to myself for the last year. But I guess it's time to *2share our work *13with the scene. So that's it, we managed to both *12finish *13dc#31 and *12release *13it! *12Finally some *2days of glory*12, before we start the work on the *11next issue*12... Oh make that *2months of glory*12, or even *10years*12. *13The main ed *12(better make that the only ed), *2strife*13, has left dc#31. With a bit of luck you'll find him some where in the *12future*13, in something called *2 digitalchips*12#*232*11! *11 Enjoy your *10summer*11! *13*19we*17 *19*12 don't*17 *19*13care *17 *15 *13You have been watching an *12apathy production*13, *11released in *2july 2002 *2«»*12ignorance is bliss*2«» *11 Digital Chips *12is *7©*2 apathy *122002 *16 I'm your evil twin, mohaha!
