So you want draw?
Firstly,
if you're new to the underground/digital art scene, then
you should read the article "What
the hell is the art scene".
There
are quite a few mediums that artists within the art scene
choose to persue, sometimes one or sometimes all of them..
Listed below are the things to get you started:
ANSI
The most common two programs in use to draw ANSI are ACiDDRAW
and TheDraw. They're both pretty easy to use.

ASCII is pretty much drawn in the same programs ANSI artists
use to create their pieces. If you want to be pretty hardcore
about it you could create your pieces in Notepad or Microsoft

HIREZ
There are quite a few programs out there to create high
resolution pieces, shareware and commercial. Obviously the
commercial products are going to deliver the goods much
more easily, but you'll have to also fork out a bit of money
for them. A good shareware product is Paintshop Pro v5.0,
which has many of the features Adobe Photoshop does.
